TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Personally, I start with the index. However, most of the Online Help I get
with software products have such dismal indexes, they are almost useless,
and I wind up using search.
And more times than not, the information I'm looking for isn't in the Help
system anyway, and then I have to go asking other users of the software.
After enough experiences with bad indexes (or none at all), I can understand
why users cease trying to use them at all, because it's usually a waste of
time. Which is unfortunate, IMO.
