Exactly. Tabbed browsing is standard because it is so gosh-darned handy,
but that very ease of use has its perils. As you say, it wouldn't have
mattered how the old transaction page was re-acquired, just that it
happened. Having a mess o' tabs just made it easy to overlook what was
going on.
As for Youtube... at work I just don't. We're at a branch office, and
bandwidth hogs are vilified, if not pilloried.
