How about database printing?

Using MIF or XML the text is sufficient. Of course XML or SGML has 
the potential of doing the same thing, exactly the same thing.

So if you will do a bit more work learning what single sourcing 
actually is, then perhaps your disdain at using conditional text, 
etc, might be alleviated.
