Hi All,

I am working on a project with a quality group that sets policy,
procedure, and certain instructions, for 7 or more operating companies
(OC) outside of the corporate office.

We are looking at trying to redefine how documentation is controlled,
moving from tribal knowledge to documented processes for things that
have traditionally handled on departmental bases.

The question I have is based on the following scenario:

1. Each OC has their own set of documents (termed QCIs, SPIs,
SOPs/SWIs).

2. Corporate has BDPs defined policies which rule over all and are
signed by the company VP.

3. Corporate quality is new. Corporate quality will issue equivalent of
QCIs, SPIs, SOPs/SWIs - which ALL facilities must follow (for example,
so you don't think its big brother - work instructions are the same for
all facilities for a corporate-wide software used for complaints
handling). (The VP does not need to sign off on these - the do not set
policy).

4. Currently there is no Corporate documentation control, though our
goal would be to get there sooner or later. (And the facilities have
asked for it...)

The QUESTIONS:

How would you handle documentation control of the Quality QCIs, SPIs,
SOPs/SWIs? Should there be a common numbering schema? Should we create a
new one?

How do you handle document control and numbering for numerous types of
documentation (for example, engineering vs HR, vs Administrative, vs
Quality, vs Manufacturing, Finance, production, etc.)

Can anyone propose links with more information for me to research this?

If anyone has examples of numbering schemes, could you send them to me?

Any other thoughts, comments, will be welcome

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments

Deborah
