The most important feature in Snagit, (old or new)
that all the other screencapture products freeware or paid do NOT have
is....

Simply...

Batch Processing of images

ladies and gentleman...

Drawing callouts and resizing are all nice and dandy..its a free world out
there, and there are mountains of choices to do that. Heck paint does the
job as well.

but we're professional tech writers. Professionals. Professionals managing
tech pubs with millions of dollars of value added work to contribute..

Batch processing images is the number one and only reason to justify it.
Simple.

Resize a thousand images in your library or convert them all to PNG, JPG,
Black and White, etc or change DPI...

All the competition needs to do is add Batch Processing and then the playing
field is levelled.

You can do this right now in either SnagIT 8 or 9.

In 8:
1. Select the region to cut out of the middle of the image 2. Select Edit >
Join

In 9
1. Select the area to be cut out of the image 2. Select the Image tab, and
click Cut Out

As the basic Join/Cut Out doesn't highlight that some thing is missing from
the page, I do the following:

In 8
1. Select the bottom portion and apply torn edge 2. Select the top portion
and apply a second torm edge 3. Select the middle portion space and select
Edit > Join.

In 9 You can create a custom work flow. You have a little more to do to set
everything up inthe begining but then you could work really fast.
1. Add the selection tool to the quick access tool bar.
2. Add a top section torn edge style to your Quick Access Styles 3. Add a
bottom section torn edge style to your Quick Access Styles

When you are ready to process an image:
1. Select the bottom portion and apply quick style 2. Select the top portion
and apply a second quick style 3. Select the middle portion and click Cut
Out

Now the next thing they can do to make task like this even easier is to give
the option of turning those ragged edges to the inside of the bounding box.
The you'd only have to select the middle section adn apply the edge effect
once.
