TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I live in upstate NY, and I completed the Brooklyn College online TW cert program. I thought it was good, and well worth the time and cost. I did do some online "shopping" for TW programs prior to deciding on Brooklyn College. I thought it provided the most "bang for the buck". (BTW, because this is an online program there is nothing that really "limits" it to NYC. The instructor I worked with was based in Austin, TX.)
I'm currently a network administrator and use what I've learned in the cert program in preparing disaster recovery and help desk documents.

Subject: Re: Input wanted about online certificate programs
Hi Whirlers:
Did anyone ever address this poster's question? I am doing some research for
a friend in the situation--she has a small child and needs an online program
for technical writing that she can work in between family duties and a sales
job.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
