Experience is always helpful in any career. Doctors are better doctors for having been a teacher or scientist beforehand. Teachers are better teachers for having been a nurse or counselor beforehand. Counselors are better counselors for having been reporters or statisticians beforehand.

We all bring unique experiences into our field that help us and our peers expand our views on the field--and the world.
