At my work, we have an ongoing problem with Word styles that's driving
us all bonkers. (Okay, so Word is driving us bonkers, so what else is
new? Anyway ... ) Every so often, we update our departmental template,
and attach the updated template to any documents we revise from the
point forward. But when we do this, some of the styles -- styles that
are carried forward with the same name -- go changing on us.
Specifically, the problem involves styles that include dingbats -- a
"note" style that uses the hand holding a pencil, and a "caution" style
that uses a pointing hand. What happens is that the dingbat keeps
changing to something else. We've come up with a few ways of solving the
problem, such as pasting in a paragraph from another document where the
style is okay, and using it to cause the style in the target document to
change. I've done that and had it work on some paragraphs and not
others. Sometimes, we use the method of copying all but the last
paragraph mark into a new document, but even that doesn't always work.
We think it has something to do with the "Automatically update document
styles" box being either checked or not cheked. Has anybody had similar
problems, and do you have any other ideas for solutions? Thanks.
