This is exactly what I was thinking. This isn't a competition between the tech writer and the SME. Stand back and look at the ultimate goal--making sure the end user gets the best experience from the user guide and gets the question answered without having to resort to other help methods (i.e. calling tech support.)
This isn't a competition. The SME knows the subject better than you
(or you would be the SME and you wouldn't have sent it o him for
review). You can either make sure than what you have complies
factually with what he wrote or you can take whatr he wrote and modify
it for style.
