Sean Brierley wondered: <<Looking for a resource that discusses and
compares justified and ragged-right text in terms of readability.>>

Karen Schriver's "Dynamics in document design" (1997) is getting a
bit old, but it's still just about the best overall discussion of
typography -- based on real research -- out there.

Bottom line: With competently typeset text, it doesn't make any
significant difference whether you use ragged right or full
justification. Both produce equally legible and equally readable
type. Most typographic studies I've seen that claim an advantage for
some form of fontography end up comparing a badly chosen and poorly
typeset font with a well chosen and well-typeset font. As you can
imagine, the comparison doesn't hold much water.
