Podcasting future in Technical Writing

I am a student researching whether or not there is a future for podcasts in the field of Technical Communication and/or Technical Writing. Could it be true that blogging and especially Wikis would have a better fit?  Are there drawbacks to podcasting for Technical Writers? Do they serve a purpose in your field?
