I embrace your idea, and deem it really swell. However, after the ad
is inserted into the 160 character limit, would be no room for the
message.

That underscores a key difference of two technologies. A list is
something that grows large, and needs a massive base of support, such
as ads, contributors, and so on. A tweet (and similar) requires 160
characters, a sender, and backend.

A tweet is extremely useful for a quick answer. A list is for
discussion that requires several rounds of input.
