Outside dentistry...Personally, I hate hearing people using forms of the word "impact" for anything other than physical objects crashing together. I hate hearing that word in the office. The word "affect" would be just as useful. More situation-specific words like "harm" or "increase" are useful. I hate "impact" because I almost always hear it coming from sales/marketing types and business managers, who like to use it at the slightest excuse because they think using such an active, forceful sounding word makes them sound more "dynamic" or something like that. Too often, use of the word "impact" is less of an act of providing information than it is the sign of an egoboo overdose.
