As others have posted in this thread, David Pogue is more than a mere
journalist. He wrote or co-wrote seven books in the “for Dummies” series,
and he was the person who originated Missing Manual series, which is
now part of the O'Reilly catalog and includes over 100 titles. Pogue *is*
a working technical writer as well as a publisher, and a journalist, and a
newsletter author, and a prolific blogger, and a technology expert on
several television news programs (he even won a Business Emmy). His
column may have rubbed you the wrong way, but it's over the top to
categorically dismiss his upcoming STC keynote address as "a waste
of conference time".
