PhotoShop added true 3D objects in CS4.
Corel used to provide a program called
Dream that modeled and rendered in 3D in
their graphics suite, but this was dropped in
Corel 7. You'll now need the stand-alone
Designer to do this. I think you're SOL as far
as true 3D in Gimp is concerned, and it can
only produce 2D "flat" images that simulate
views of 3D objects ("3D effects").
I do 3D in AutoCAD and 3ds Max, but it
would be delusional to call either of these
"easy-to-use."
The free version of Google's Sketchup should
do what you need.I did a quick look and found
this tutorial on mapping an image to a 3D object:
