Then there's always STC's definitions/information about the subject:

http://www.stc.org/about/press02.asp (especially "What do technical
communicators do?," "What does someone need to enter the field of
technical communication?," and "What do technical communicators study?")

I am in the midst of writing a grant proposal for further training in
the technical communication field. Since the people reading the grant
are most familiar with the very old definition of "technical writer"
from the DOL:

/"Write technical materials, such as equipment manuals, appendices, or /

/operating and maintenance instructions. May assist in layout work."/

I've been asked to research and write a description of the field as it
actually is, including the technical and design skills often required.

I have cited Susan Burton's publication: "Technical Writing vs.
Technical Communication" along with the new, proposed description. What
I would like from you is help with a list of job titles and roles that
fall under the TC umbrella. e.g.: Information Designer, Instructional
Designer, Web Developer, and so on.

Any ideas you have would be welcome.

Thank you,

Ev Barney
