The STC has two periodicals: Technical Communication Journal and Intercom.
The former tends to be more research-oriented and academic, while the
latter focuses more on the practical.

I see Techwr-L as more like Intercom. I believe Dr. Hailey expected it to
be more like the Journal.

TECHWR-L can be like either periodical at any given time, or like both at the same time. It isn't supposed to be like one or the other, as long as it stays focused on technical communication and nobody mentions Britney Spears. But hey, I recall that her name even came up in a discussion once.
