Bullets are relatively new in formal
writing, and authorities like Chicago
only grudgingly (and in Chicago's case,
only tacitly) acknowledge that people
out there are using a partial sentence
to introduce a bulleted list of parallel
sentence-completions. In such cases
the bullets do tend to be left unpunctuated,
but is there "any validity" to ending the
last sentence with a period? Sure there is.
It's valid to consider that if a sentence
has a start, then the sentence has to end
with some kind of punctuation. But my
impression is that these days folks tend
either toward the extreme liberalism of
leaving off the punctuation or the
extreme conservatism of not breaking
off mid-sentence to start bullets in the
first place. I don't see a lot of messing
with Mister Inbetween.
