My wife the quality engineer has done a lot of that stuff. Sometimes to 
the disgust of management she's recommended that they adjust the 
standard procedures to ones suggested by [ghasp] /union/ members.

Still plenty of work for the outside consultants, though. To their 
executive credit, some companies limit the scope of quality engineering. 
It apparently gets in the way of production too much. QA can produce 
reports, but please (they're told) stay off the shop floor, and put the 
PASSED stamp on everything you're told to.

October will be National Quality Month. Inspect, inspect, inspect.

And to make up for it, November will be National Quantity Month. Ship, 
ship, ship.
