MS Word: Spell Checker: Red Lines

I have an MS Word question. When you misspell a word in MS Word, a wavy
red line typically appears below the word, indicating a misspelling.

In my Word doc, these wavy red lines do indeed appear under misspelled
words--up to a certain point in the doc. Then, no more red lines, even
when the word is badly misspelled.

Question: Why no red lines past a certain point? Any ideas?
