Our manual figures are about 70% line art, 40% photos.  We're not a software 
company, and there are few, if any, screencaps.

We print our color covers at 400lpi offset because at the volumes we produce the 
setup charges for offset dwarf the actual run charges no matter what quality we 
spec, so why the hell not?

I have various other color items, such as laminated instruction cards, printed 
digitally, but so far the best digital I've tried still doesn't do it for an 
8.5x11 cover.
