Agreed. Additionally, if your SMEs are using Visio, your illustrations will
be used by the engineers, and you can re-use some of their drawings (without
many changes if you're lucky).

I needed it because all my source drawings were in Visio and I couldn't view
them without the software, whether I wound up redrawing everything in
Illustrator or not.
