The entire section is awkward, probably even including parts that you
did not quote. Take the whole thing and recast it. Focus on audience,
purpose, context, and clarity. Pay attention to avoiding passive
constructions.

The choice of "status" vs "state" might be a technical issue. For whom
are you writing?
