IMO, Windows 7 is not an upgrade for XP users. It's an upgrade for Vista users.

My personal laptop was shipped with Vista. I installed Win7 RC1, and then installed the 
RTM once it was available to MSDN subscribers. In both instances, I did a non-destructive 
clean install (there's info on the web for doing this -- just google). I've been happy with 
Win7, especially in comparison with Vista. 

If you are running XP and love it, I would stick with it (I'm still running XP on my other three 
computers). If you are running Vista and hate it, it's worth your time to upgrade.
