I had come across an opinion about this from a British grammarian
(forgot who it was, without having to research it again...). He stated
that the advice to not start sentences with conjunctions was essentially
an artificial "rule," most likely pushed by pedantic schoolmarms and
such (probably disgruntled spinsters, to boot...). He backed up his
opinion by mentioning that using introductory conjunctions was
acceptable over 300 years ago in both US and UK English use and custom.
