TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I tried Richard's suggestion to use hypertext with "message URL
filename.txt", and it worked! Then I inserted a foldername in the path
expecting that it should still work, and it did!!
Thanks again,
Cherie

Subject: RE: linking from Frame(PDF) to external files
Optionally you can use MicroType's TimeSavers and embed the file as an
attachment to the PDF at the time of distilling. I'm doing this in a
programming guide with some code examples that the end user may want to
copy and use for their own purposes.
You can manually attach these files after distilling, but with
TimeSavers you can link it once in the FM files and forget about it.
Obviously, the size of the attached file is a consideration.
