And at the opposite end of that spectrum...
Here at Mitchell Repair, where ex-auto mechanics have been hired as tech writers for as long as this company has existed, it has been very hard to find hands-on machinery techs who can also write. For the twenty years I've been here, we've done all our hiring through temp agencies because we need to try-out so many potential writers just to find the few gems.
I agree with John. When I was a hiring manager, I often found that philosophy majors, former clergy, musicians, and weavers
