TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I don't know about the rest of you, but it's hard to take seriously a survey
that leaves off the two of THE most commonly used tools in tech writing,
even if ubiquitous--ESPECIALLY if ubiquitous. If this list is intended to be
used to influence purchasing decisions, and if you happen to have a boss
that won't consider something unless it's a happy number on a clear list,
the list just doesn't make the cut. I can't go to my boss with this and
explain why we need to stay with FrameMaker. It's my informed opinion
against his uninformed one, and it's sad to say which will hold sway...
If you provide the survey list sorted only alphabetically, at least provide
the data in a simple format for download so we can do the sort ourselves.
(I'm currently cleaning it up in Excel)
