There is an upside. About 500 applicants will trample each other for a shot at the job. Change the job description to Technical Secretary and get little or no response.
For recent grduates of a Bachelor's or Master's program in "technical communication"--especially those run through the English or Rhetoric departments--it is a shot at a first job, experience, a chance for exposure, and a laundry list of other benefits.
For anyone with experience, it may seem demeaning. That depends how long you have been unemployed, how long it has been since your last unemployment extension ran out, and how far behind you are in mortgage payments.
