TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
eLance used to be good for getting some decent "side jobs", but in the past
4 years, it has gone downhill in a big way. People are willing to write
500-word (researched!) articles for 2.50 each. 50 dollars for a 75-page
e-book. 10 bucks to do people's homework for them. And then it's a crapshoot
to see if the clients finish paying for their contract. (the graphic design
category is even worse - 50 bucks for a corporate identity package and they
want 5 mock ups with the bid. No thank you.)
