I've had occasional bouts of lower back pain, mostly due to the combination of sitting in front of a keyboard and commuting to work. Exercise always seems to help.

One highly effective exercise is the "superman". It really helps to strengthen the lower back muscles. Here's a link that demonstrates the exercise.

I'm also a chronic "sprawler," and don't see that changing any time soon. Sitting up straight may be better, but when coffee and slouching are your only vices, you tend to defend them with vigilance. ;o)
