If I were reading documentation aimed at pilots, I would much rather know that the tech writer was FAA certified than STC certified.

Reading this thread, I keep coming back to comparisons with FAA pilot certification; an old and successful (though not always loved:) certification program.

I think there is a lot that we could learn from that program.
