Also, is your person using the real header/footer provision in Word or just
manually inserting text in an area he/she has decided is the "header" or
"footer"? This makes a big difference.

In Word 2003 and earlier, the menu command to deal with headers and footers
is *View* > *Header and Footer*. Headers added any other way will cause
problems.
