I recommend Desktops from Microsoft Sysinternals as well:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/cc817881

It's a tiny app that exposes Windows' built-in support for multiple desktop instances, though it also carries the built-in limitations of that support: no moving windows from one desktop to another. Rock-solid in every other way, though.

Kevin--

Unlike UNIX, Linux, and similar, as you know Windows by default has no
virtual desktops. There are many different programs out there which
offer this functionality, however. Here are two:

Microsoft PowerToys has one at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Another good option, also free: http://virtuawin.sourceforge.net/

The second one looks particularly interesting as it offers all sorts of
enhancements that you may find very worthwhile; it also supports XP as
well as Win 7.
