I don't know if they use the same code base at all, but I remember Nisus Writer
from WAY BACK -- I think I was working on FullWrite at the time (anybody
remember that one?). The verdict among everybody I respected was that it was
formidable, clean, fast, and good. I played with it a bit, and found nothing to
dislike. As I recall, back then it was based on codes in the document file...
I could be wrong on that, though. It was a long time ago. Who knows what the
code base is now, though. Their site claims to have built it up from their
lighter product, which they say is a new code base. But if the same people are
involved, it's probably pretty good. Looks like a respectable alternative for
the Mac. And hey, the price is great! Given that it's compatible with Word
2003, you have very little to loose by trying it out. (Ah, the halcyon days
when there were more than two pubs packages to argue about...)
