TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I rarely look at name tags anymore. I am so nearsighted that I have to get THISCLOSE to read them. If I need to know someone's name, and they are female and wearing a name tag, I bring up the situation:
"My apologies. I am really myopic. I didn't want to have to stare at the area where you have your tag pinned."
The situation usually resolves itself gracefully, and introductions are made verbally.

Kevin McLauchlan said, "As a male who is more fascinated by other female
attributes, I've been embarrassed to catch myself with eyes lingering on the
chest of women who wear:
a) name tags
b) message t-shirts.....
"Hmm. Maybe stores and other service businesses should have their employees
wear name tags on
hats or on waist-belts... .. um... never mind. Politically correct
logistics are a beeyatch."

Hint to women who wear nametags: At social events or meetings where nametags
are worn, I put mine high on my left shoulder instead of my chest. Short
woman's defense, I guess.
