The term Corporate Crescent wrench seems to fit. Sometimes I feel like corporate duct tape might be more appropriate. We sometimes get stuck to projects where managers don't know quite how to fix the problem and they depend on the tech writer to hold things together.
 
My weirdest job as a tech writer: I'm the de facto quality manager for a major project. I'm learning as I go and it's an uphill battle that takes away from the work I do well.
