I'm rather looking forward to learning it and doing it.

Shipping a manual before you're satisfied with it is very different from
shipping a product that you know to be untested or unacceptably buggy.

Having said that, software testing is a natural fit for many of us. All
the elements of solving jigsaw puzzles and mystery novels, interrogating
the usual suspects, cracking ciphers, digging the Pharaohs' tombs...

In a place in which I was employed, somebody in management tried that.

The tester stood his ground. He did not say "Ship it."
He did not say "Don't ship it."

He simply signed his test report. His test report included a number of
"This test case was not tested during this test cycle"
or "Test case incomplete" or "No confirming test performed on this test
case."

The tester is still with ... er... that company. The manager is not.
