The correct answer, "negotiable," won't fit into some website job-application forms.

If they want to start with price negotiation, I usually try to get them to tell me how much they are planning to pay. The rule of thumb is that the one who names a price first is the loser.

That approach has helped me save time by eliminating the NYC and DC jobs that want to pay $23 or worse an hour.
