I've used password protected PDFs in the past as a sort of tripwire on
docs that were not yet ready for prime time. I was once asked to post
an internal document on our intranet. It wasn't yet ready for
publication, and I didn't have time to make it pretty. So I put a
password on it, because I just *knew* one of our sales guys would grab
it and try to share that doc with customers. And I really don't like
to let draft documents get into customer hands. It's a professional
pride thing.

And I was right. When I got the e-mail from the sales guy asking for
an unencrypted version, I had the time to "fix" the document and
create a version that I wasn't ashamed to let customers see.
