I am running a newish dual-core Intel chip and oodles of RAM. Flare 8 is still painfully slow.

It's not the Flare dev team's fault if Flare's customers don't all have the latest spurting-edge, faster-than-light machines, right?
I'll bet that a lot of time is wasted swapping things to disk because there's not "enough" RAM on the machine. What amount of memory is installed on these "slow" machines? what did Flare dev have on their boxes when creating 8?
On my Linux boxes I can tell when I've got the "thrashing" problem because I see the swap daemon active. I don't remember what to look for under Widnows.
