TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Well, a substantial part of the grade is the proposal/style guide/work plan - our teacher is a demon for pre-planning your projects (as is right, but annoying) - and the project itself is drawn substantially from work done in previous classes with the same teacher, where content and presentation was a major part of the grade. I imagine that, in the final project, we'd be marked down if the writing was simply bad but the focus in this class is more on using the tool appropriately, and structure and organization of information.
(I'll have 3 topic types: procedure, reference, and information - I have to decide if I want different designs for each type of topic, or if I'll try for more of a unified look and feel to the project. I know my end result is going to be web help, because the software I'm documenting works under Windows, Mac, and Linux, and that seems the most universal format. - I don't have much experience in designing for web help though.)

Paladin of Souls (HB page 35), Lois McMaster Bujold
