I'm thinking that my resume is in need of an overhaul -- I get a lot of
hits from it, but (to me) it is really text heavy and that I might do
better with one that is more succinct. However, I am one of those
"conglomerate" people -- a jack of all trades and master of none. To give
you an idea, I have a BS in geophysics, an MS in materials science and
engineering, and a cert in business and tech comm ... I have worked in the
environmental field, in IT, and in the financial industry. I have worked
for government, academia, and private companies.
Right now, I have my resume split into a communication and a technical
section, but it still just seems weighty (the tech section also highlights
the writing that I did in those positions). The number one question I get
in interviews is about my diversity, "You have a really interesting
background. How did you get here?" Anyway, because I get so many hits, and
because I get that question a lot in my interviews, I think it makes my
resume stand out from the crowd. I am loathe to change what works, but I
still think that it could use some streamlining.
Anybody have any suggestions? Examples of a similar type of background that
you don't mind passing along to me?
