I have the same impression as Richard. A tech writer working for an
hourly wage sounds more like a temp position, not a full-time employee.

I'm a salaried professional. I'm not paid by the hour and don't get
overtime. I also don't have to clock out to go see the dentist, take a
long lunch to run errands, etc.

I was under the impression that most employed (as opposed to contract)
tech writers are salaried. Maybe I've just led a sheltered existence.
