Those are both cases where the employer violated multiple laws / regulations.

I'm skeptical that California Labor Code §515.5(B)(5) would trump the
federal FLSA if a software industry tech writer that was properly
treated as exempt but had to work 50 hours a week to meet deadlines
sued for not being paid overtime.
