Several times I received solicitations to become a franchise owner. There was no
mention of any specific type of business or product, just to gt in to the
so-called "growing movement" for individuals to own a piece of the larger pie as
a franchise owner.

In every case, I recall that the e-mail was in response to a Monster or
CareerBuilder or perhaps another site where my resume resides. (I now heavily
rely on indeed.com for online job leads along with any personal networking.)

The last time this happened (sometime late last year), I e-mailed the individual
(fictitious name on her e-mail to me? Who knows?) and reminded her of what Bill
Sherman states below, that is, "Did you even bother to read the resume, at least
the part way up front where it says I'm a technical writer and am looking for
another position as a technical writer"?

So far, no further contacts from her.

And yes, I'm sure the firm simply uses software to mine the www to get names and
addresses.

Cool. A chance to travel and see the world and get paid for it. Jump on it quick
before they hire someone else.

Key words? These guys get so desperate sometimes. In the next to last
paragraph of my very long resume, which means I did this long ago, is a short
blurb about working on " Improved TOW Vehicle (M901 ITV) based on M113 Armored
Personnel Carrier tracked vehicle".

So I get a job email today.

M113 Mechanics Needed

... I JUST got an opportunity for 10-15 M113 mechanics to take on a contract in
Iraq ...

It would really be nice if these people would actually READ a resume before
sending out this type of email. About 80% of my resume says my jobs were
technical writer. NONE of them say mechanic anywhere. Obviously there is one
hit on M113 and they ran with it.
