The one skill that helped me most in learning FM was reading. The book: Unstructured FrameMaker 8 (http://www.scriptorium.com/books/publishing-fundamentals-unstructured-framemaker-8). I never actually used FM 8; when I started learning, I was using FM 7.2, and then I switched to FM 10. The book was equally beneficial for both versions.

My other source was the FM users list (http://lists.frameusers.com/mailman/listinfo/framers). Very helpful folks there.
