IIRC, placing the image within a frame (not a text box) maintains the
link when moved. This should work in Word 2010 as well, once you add the
Frame option to the QAT.

I have always linked my images in my manuals because there are several
versions using same images - so it save on server memory.
If I click on "alt + f9" then word shows any image in a table cell as
{INCLUDEPICTURE "images/picture.PNG" \MERGEFORAT |d}.
This is great because I have recently had to do language variants so now
I can write {INCLUDEPICTURE "images/english/picture.PNG" \MERGEFORAT
|d}. then later, do a find-replace for "/english/" to "/german/" and I
get all images swapped over.

This works great for any images that occur (as most) in a table.

But I cannot see the same Alt text for any images that are placed on a
page and then positioned such as "wrapped/square" or other. As soon as
you position the picture It immediately embeds the image.

Is there any easy way to insert a picture, move it and keep the link?
