It's a new server, with terabytes of unused storage. The VM in which 
my material resides has about 120GB of virgin territory, since we only 
just started populating it with our first two projects. 

On the laptop that I'm using to access the VM, I have 8GB of memory, 
and oodles of room in the hard disk. 

If I get the problem again, I'll try some of the other links he provided.
