In a previous galaxy I wrote up a 16-step installation method for a chunk of hardware. Marketing's review was, "Reduce it to four steps." I replied, "Gaak!"

Fortunately, all worked well in the long run. There were actually 17 steps (Engineering had failed to mention one of them) and a carefully considered redesign reduced it to one or two steps, something like (1) Plug it in and (2) Turn it on. In the long run, of course, this approach has reduced the need for technical writing, or at least the amount needed per megaflop.
